The UK crowned the 26th fattest country in the world as ‘one in three Brits are obese’
NEARLY one in three Brits are now obese — up from 2008 and putting the UK 26th in a global league table.
The percentage of adults classed as being grossly overweight has risen from 22 a decade ago to 28 per cent today.
But the rate of diabetes has been falling at the same time, while the rest of Western Europe has seen theirs increase.
Britain fares well in most of the nine categories in the Legatum Prosperity Index, which is published today.
An average score across its “Nine Pillars of Prosperity” sees Britain ranked seventh out of 146 countries — ahead of the US, Canada and Germany.
The UK is fourth for its business environment and 16th for economic quality — which includes standards of living. It is 12th for access to education and 14th in the world for national security and personal safety.
Britain’s best performing category was environmental policies — only Slovenia placed ahead of us. Globally, the index found prosperity at its highest level in its 12-year history.
But the gap between countries with the highest and lowest prosperity scores is widening.
