What is the Norway Plus plan b for Brexit?

Plan is Britain should be set up like Norway — which is out of the EU but has close ties with the union by trading via the European Economic Area (EEA).

Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Iceland trade with the EU in the way.

What does the model look like?

Tory MPs Amber Rudd and Michael Gove have formed a cross-Brexit alliance to push for membership of the European Free Trade Association which would allow Britain to trade in the EEA.

This would also mean the UK could cut trade deals outside the EU.

But this would involve keeping free movement of people and following many rules which it has no say or influence over.

What deal has Theresa May struck with the EU?

The deal covers the transition period from 2019 to 2020, essentially how the UK will leave the bloc.

The UK has promised to keep to the EU standards and regulations for goods, ending free movement of people.

A new customs set-up will be introduced where the UK would collect tariffs on the EU's behalf.

There would be an end of both direct ECJ (European Court of Justice) oversight of UK affairs and annual payments to the EU which are about £20bn.

But UK would be expected to cough up at least £40bn.
