Brit holiday misery as Alicante and Benidorm put on red alert for huge storms

BENIDORM and Alicante are tonight bracing themselves for yet more destructive storms as severe weather continues to pummel Brit holiday spots in Spain and its islands.
Spanish national weather agency AEMET has placed Costa Blanca on red alert just hours after Tenerife was walloped by the worst storms in 40 years.
Alicante, which has experienced severe flooding already, along with Valencia, are also braced for severe weather.
Meanwhile the Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Formentera, Mallorca and Menorca are also on high alert.
The Canary Islands will face another day of battering by high coastal waters.
Yesterday, dozens of people were evacuated from apartments in Tenerife after giant waves surged into seafront properties.
Fierce storms led to restaurant windows being smashed, cars swept into the sea and a football pitch being destroyed by severe floods on the tourist island.
Dramatic footage shows a hotel on fire after it was struck by lighting in Marbella.
Smoke could be seen pouring out of the Playa Hotel in the Las Chapas area.
It is not known if any of Brits were caught up in the incidents.
The incidents happened after regional government officials issued a severe weather warning as a fierce storm battered the north of Tenerife and other parts of the Canary Islands.
Parts of Malaga were also hit by heavy downpours with Mijas, Ojen and Coin all badly affected.
Hotel Playa in Las Chapas caught fire after it was hit by lightning.
Streets in Marbella have become virtual rivers due to the rain.
