Shocking image shows drug addicts use baby-changing facilities in public toilets to inject heroin

The remnants of a heroin fix - including empty saline packets, tin foil and other lethal litter connected to drug use - were left in a loo in Cork, Ireland

DRUG addicts are using the baby-changing facilities of a public toilet to shoot up heroin, this image shows.

The shocking photo shows the remnants of a Class A drug fix - empty saline packets, tin foil and other lethal litter - on a table meant for babies.

A councillor spoke out after he heard of the drug paraphernalia that was left littered around the facility in Cork, Ireland.

Earlier this month, a mum was horrified to find a used syringe on a baby changing table in the toilet of Morrisons in Bolton, Greater Manchester.

Kenneth O'Flynn, who represents the party Fianna Fail, organised a clean-up of the area but is concerned that the loo will be used again by addicts.

The discovery comes six months after the former Deputy Lord Mayor of Cork first called for the installation of dark lighting in a bid to stop addicts shooting up.

However, our photo clearly shows the disgusting behaviour is still happening.

Cllr O'Flynn told The Sun Online: “Over six months ago I requested that Cork City Council put in dark light in all public toilets throughout the city.

“And after the issue was raised it was agreed on the floor of the chamber that this work would be carried out. However, to date it has not been done — despite the fact that these measures can be installed for small money.

“Over the last two to three years we’ve had an increase in heroin abuse around the city centre and this has been noted by traders and tourists.

"As a result needles are being placed in different areas, including this public baby-changing facility and a toilet on Grand Parade.

“It is shameful that parents are being asked to use the same facilities as drug-users.

"And it is horrifying to think of what could happen if a child was to come into contact with some of these substances.

"All stakeholders need to come together, including our gardai, to eradicate this problems.

“Cork city is a fast-growing economic base but could lose its edge if this escalating problem is not tackled.

“Unfortunately, the local authority and the Gardai have been just too slow to act. We must ensure the city is safe for visitors and shoppers and adopt a zero tolerance of heroin use.”
