‘Startling’ never-before-heard evidence on James Bulger’s killers to be revealed in new TV doc
"STARTLING" never-before-heard evidence on James Bulger's killers is set to be revealed in a new TV documentary.
Twenty-five years on from the end of the trial, tomorrow's programme by Channel 5 will explore one of the UK's most devastating crimes.
James Bulger was a toddler of two when he was snatched from a shopping centre in 1993 by ten-year-olds Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, who tortured, beat and sexually assaulted him.
In this new documentary, film-makers comprise testimony and evidence from those who knew the two boys well at the time of the prosecution process and immediately afterwards.
Neither of the killers gave evidence at the time, nor did their lawyers offer any defence.
This new documentary promises "new and startling evidence" on the monsters, who subjected their victim to unthinkable horrors.
The pair walked James for two and half miles and were spotted by 38 people – some of whom challenged the pair - but fobbed concerned passersby off with various excuses.
They took him to railway line where they poured modelling paint into his eyes, stoned him and clubbed him with bricks, before leaving him on the railway line to be hit by a train.
After killing the tot they left his body near the tracks where it was discovered two days later.
They were finally caught after blue paint covering James' body was linked to the same substance on one of the boy's clothes.
Their identity was concealed from the public during their arrest and trial, but public outrage was such that they were tried in an adult court and sentenced to eight years in prison.
In June 2001, both the killers were released and given secret identities.
However, in 2010 Venables was jailed for two years after admitting downloading and distributing indecent images of children.
It later emerged that Venables is back in jail after allegedly being caught with more vile child abuse images.
In February 2018, he admitted having a sick paedophile manual which instructed him on how to "have sex with little girls".
In July 2013, James’ anguished dad Ralph Bulger warned: “Jon Venables is and always was a predatory sex killer who will never be changed.
“He will always be a danger to children which is why he must be locked up for life."
James Bulger: The New Revelations airs tomorrow (Wednesday) on Channel 5 at 9pm.
