Rise in steroid use among sportsmen blamed on muscular blokes on Love Island
FIT blokes on Love Island have been blamed for a rise in steroid use among sportsmen.
Experts said men were being inspired by reality TV stars like the hit ITV2 show’s Adam Collard.
Dean Acremen, of Public Health Wales, said: “Our research found 56 per cent of people using image or performance- enhancing drugs used them for aesthetic reasons not performance.
“They said they wanted to look like individuals from Love Island and Geordie Shore.”
He was talking as sports officials and medical chiefs met in Cardiff to discuss the problem.
UK Anti-Doping boss Trevor Pearce added: “Young people who chase a social media-inspired Love Island body — aided by the increasing availability of steroids — is a new challenge we face.”
