Jeremy Hunt to demand Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman cooperates with the murder probe of Jamal Khashoggi
JEREMY HUNT will today demand Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman cooperate with the investigation into “brutal murder” of Jamal Khashoggi.
In a whistlestop 24 hour trip to Saudi Arabia, the Foreign Secretary will urge the kingdom to help the world “deliver justice for his family” for the journalist’s family.
He will separately meet with King Salman to lobby for an end to the “incalculable” bloodshed in Yemen.
In comments released last night, Mr Hunt said: “The international community remain united in horror and outrage at the brutal murder of Jamal Khashoggi one month ago.
“It is clearly unacceptable that the full circumstances behind his murder still remain unclear.
"We encourage the Saudi authorities to co-operate fully with the Turkish investigation into his death, so that we deliver justice for his family and the watching world.”
The trip comes a day after reports an audio recording of Mr Khashoggi’s dying moments had been shared with Britain, France, the US and Saudi Arabia.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said: “We gave it to Saudi Arabia. We gave it to all of them.”
It marked the first time that the Turkish President had publicly acknowledged the existence a recording that backs claims Mr Khashoggi was killed by a Saudi hit team in the kingdom’s consulate in Turkey.
One German official said its spooks had listened to an audio recording in a trip to Ankaara. They told the Washington Post – where Mr Khashoggi was a contributor – “the recording was very convincing”.
