The investigation into missing chef Claudia Lawrence has cost over £1.5million with cops still failing to identify a suspect

THE probe into Claudia Lawrence’s disappearance has topped £1.5million, we can reveal.

Last week cops revealed how DNA tests on samples found in her home and car had drawn a blank.

Revolutionary familial testing was used to try to identify similar profiles.

But it failed to unearth fresh clues and police are no nearer to solving the mystery of Claudia’s 2009 disappearance.

And we can reveal how the cost of the probe, called Operation Essence, now stands at £1,558,590.

North Yorkshire Police released the figure after a freedom of information request by the Sun on Sunday.

Claudia vanished in 2009, aged 35.

She failed to turn up for work as a chef at York University.

Five men later held on suspicion of murder were released without charge.

On the DNA blow, police said last week: “These inquiries have been worthwhile but have concluded without identifying a suspect.

“This is naturally very frustrating.

“Our thoughts are with Claudia’s family who remain desperate for a breakthrough.”
