Heart-stopping moment teen cyclist ploughs head-on into car after overtaking a bus
The teen was wiped out after weaving to the wrong side of the road and peddling hard to get round the double-decker
THIS is the horrifying moment a teenage cyclist tries to overtake a bus before being wiped out by an oncoming car.
A dashcam clip shows the young rider weaving across the road before pedalling hard to catch up with a bus.
But instead of squeezing past, he started riding towards traffic on the other side of the road and is struck by a black Vauxhall.
The smash was caught on camera by grandfather David Alexander, 63, who was on a school run in York.
David had just picked his granddaughter when he noticed the teenage boy dodging traffic moments before the crash.
He said he thought the boy was attempting to "overtake" a school bus and squeeze in between traffic when he had the crash.
He said: "He was showing a complete disrespect for any other road user. Just before this happened he nearly hit two girls on the pavement.
"I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It's an example of why cyclists need proper training from an early age."
The footage taken in July last year shows the cyclist come flying off his bike and crashing over the car's bonnet.
His bike flies into the air and comes clattering down onto the roof of the car.
David pulled over after the incident and offered to supply his dash cam footage to the driver of the black Vauxhall involved in the crash.
He says he "felt sorry" for the driver of the car, a man, who was travelling with his wife and two children in the car.
He said the cyclist dented the car's windscreen and caused some bodywork damage.
David added: "You could see that he was trying to race the bus. When I went over after it happened he was staggering around and was dazed.
"He kept saying he's sorry. I've got no idea how he managed it. He can't have been looking ahead of him."
