World War One centenary: Read about the historic events of 100 years ago as they would have been reported in The Sun
In this special feature we commemorate the world-shattering events that made up World War One - through a Sun perspective
WELCOME to World War One by The Sun - a special feature commemorating the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.
These front pages show how we might have reported the momentous events had we been around in 1914 to 1918.
The front pages try to use some of the language of the day and give an impression of the public mood during the war.
They may seem surprisingly positive and gung-ho to a 21st century audience, bearing in mind the terrible slaughter on the Western Front and elsewhere.
But the mood in Britain at the time was relatively upbeat.
There was criticism of the government but anti-war protests were rare.
World War One by The Sun is not just a commemoration of the events.
It is also intended as a tribute to the memory of the millions of ordinary people – civilians and military, friend and foe – who were killed or maimed between 4 August 1914 and 11 November 1918.
We must never forget.
