Labour MP and Corbynista Lloyd Russell-Moyle wants to ‘nationalise’ private homes across the UK by giving councils ‘right to buy them’
Left-wing MP has called for new powers to be given to councils to buy up swathes of housing
A LABOUR MP wants to “nationalise” private homes by giving councils the right to buy them.
Corbynista Lloyd Russell-Moyle believes town hall chiefs should be given power of first refusal on any house up for sale.
And he wants to tear up planning laws to allow them to build high-rise flats in posh suburbs and leafy villages.
Mr Russell-Moyle, 32, revealed his party will order mass compulsory purchases of former council homes sold off under the Tories’ Right To Buy scheme.
But he told a Labour rally: “Let’s not just talk about council houses — let’s get those bloody private houses back into our hands.”
The Brighton Kemptown MP — an ally of Jeremy Corbyn — is urging the Labour leader to take swathes of privately-owned property into public control.
Left-wing activists cheered as he unveiled his plan at an anti-austerity conference under the banner “Stand With Corbyn”.
Mr Russell-Moyle said a future Labour government would abolish the right to buy and “compulsory purchase en masse” sold-off housing stock.
He told the London rally: “We need to develop a system that slowly over time takes property out of private hands and puts it into public hands.
“For example, why not give every council the first right of refusal with any houses put up for sale?
“And I don’t mean a former council house — I mean your private house.”
A Tory MP last night called it “pure madness”.
Ex-housing minister Grant Shapps said: “The truth’s out — cuddly Corbyn wants to nationalise your home.”
The Sun on Sunday Says
A CORBYNISTA MP has lifted the lid on what a Labour Government may well unleash on hard-working Britons — an onslaught on their right to own their homes.
If voters needed any reminding of the Marxist-inspired madness that would descend after a Corbyn victory, Brighton MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle has provided it.
The ‘right to buy’ revolution, letting people buy their council houses, was the bedrock of Margaret Thatcher’s premiership.
It enabled millions to gain a stake in society which they could then pass on to their children.
But under the alarming vision of this MP, the clock would be turned back to an era of mass state ownership of property that has chilling echoes of the former Soviet Union.
Not content with giving town halls the powers to compulsorily purchase ex council houses, he also wants to see them get first refusal on any private homes that come on the market.
Although not official Labour policy, the MP was cheered to the rafters at a rally.
So make no mistake, it shows the thinking of the loony left who surround Corbyn and would have the whip hand if Labour gained power.
There is a shortage of affordable housing in the UK, but mass ‘nationalisation’ of private property is not the solution.
Where there is home ownership, there are people creating communities.
It’s a cherished value that Jezza’s jesters should not be allowed to put in peril.
