ROYAL NEIGHBOUR

Six-bedroom £76million mansion opposite Buckingham Palace goes on the market for £47,000 a week

If you're finding it hard to spend that spare £50,000 each week, why not move into the same neighbourhood as Her Majesty The Queen?

A LONDON mansion priced at £47,000-a-week has gone on the market.

The weekly rent for the property, located opposite Buckingham Palace, is equivalent to almost twice the average UK salary.

If tenants enjoy the luxurious lifestyle the Victorian mansion has to offer, they can opt to buy the property outright for £76.5million rather than continue to rent it for £2.4million per year.

The new owners of No 6 Buckingham Gate will be able to boast having the Queen as one of their neighbours.

The home is in the very heart of London, with nearby transport links including London Victoria Underground Station, London Victoria Station, St. James's Park Underground Station and Westminster Underground Station.

It was designed by Sir James Penethorne, the architect of Buckingham Palace's ballroom, the Evening Standard reports.

The mansion was home to Sir Thomas Sutherland, the British banker who founded HSBC and the chairman of the P&O shipping line.

The property, built between 1859 and 1861, has six main bedrooms, six bathrooms, five reception rooms, media room, staff quarters, an eight-person lift and a spa area with a 10-metre pool, sauna, gym, and treatment room.

From 1925 to 2013, it was used as a base for offices.

One of the bedrooms alone, with its 2,000 sq ft, is larger than the average London home.

The mansion also comes with a 5,189 sq ft penthouse with three bedroom suites, a main double reception room, a further reception room, a kitchen/breakfast room and three outdoor terraces

The Grade II listed Victorian residence is being sold by Rokstone agents, who describe it as 'elegant, spacious and bright'.

Becky Fatemi, managing director of Rokstone, said: 'This prestigious "try before you buy" offer is ideal for an ultra-wealthy international family who, relocating to London, decide that they want to rent the mansion and penthouse initially, prior to making a decision to purchase them outright.

'The deal works for both parties, giving the new tenants a London home and time to get to know the property, yet also proving the vendor with rental income.'

If occupiers decided to buy the properties straight away, they would have to pay stamp duty of at least £9.1million or £11.4million if they already own a house elsewhere.

Ms Fatemi said: 'In the last five years there has been a steady rise in 'try before you buy' deals in London'.

'Try before you buy' is becoming an increasingly popular service in the UK, with Amazon Fashion launching the service for Prime members a few days ago.
