NEVER can a Budget announcement over 50p have been so warmly welcomed.
In a victory for The Sun, Philip Hammond will today announce a commemorative Brexit 50p coin, available from March 29, 2019, to mark the moment we leave the EU.
It will have the Queen’s head on one side and the phrase “Friendship with all nations” on the other — exactly the type of positive, outward-looking message we want to send.
Despite the Remain naysayers’ claims, Britain remains a top global financial, diplomatic and military power.
Unshackled from the EU, we will boom as a global business hub by developing new relationships.
Despite the Government’s commemorative move, the Royal Mail refuses to release a Brexit stamp, claiming our exit will not be “an important anniversary”. What a load of codswallop!
They thought it was appropriate to issue stamps commemorating TV show Game Of Thrones and for when we joined the EEC in 1973 and the Single Market in 1992 . . .
Royal Mail bosses clearly detest the democratic decision to leave the EU.
But for them to pretend Brexit is not a genuinely significant historical moment is first-class buffoonery.
Fans united
IT has been a sad weekend in football.
Immensely popular Leicester City owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha died alongside four others in a helicopter crash on Saturday night.
The Thai billionaire bankrolled their 2016 title-winning season, one of the beautiful game’s greatest fairytales.
The immense outpouring of grief from Foxes supporters showed how loved he was, while fans from teams as far afield as Inter Milan paid their respects alongside them on what is being described as the “darkest day” in Leicester’s history.
RIP, Vichai.
Meanwhile, former England star and ex-gaffer Glenn Hoddle is recovering in hospital after collapsing on TV.
The reaction of footie fans and stars he played alongside, against and managed shows how well regarded he is.
Get well soon, Glenn.
Gag blaggers
THE proposed reform of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) is welcome.
These contracts serve a purpose in some fields, such as business, where confidentiality is often necessary.

But after the “Sir” Philip Green scandal last week, it is clear to all that they are being grossly misused.
NDAs were not created so that the rich and powerful could gag people who make serious accusations against them.
In a free society, people must always be able to blow the whistle.
