It will be available from March 29 next year, the day Britain exits the EU at 11pm.

And in a bid to send out a positive signal to the world, it is expected to bear the phrase, ‘Friendship With All Nations’.

The Sun has campaigned for the Government to create an enduring gesture to mark Brexit as a landmark national moment, such as a special stamp or coin.

The commemorative coin has had to be personally signed off by the Queen, as it will bear her head.

A source close to the Chancellor told The Sun: “It’s an historic moment which will rightly be commemorated”.

Tory MPs will see the announcement as Mr Hammond’s bid to win round angry pro-Brexit Tory MPs after two years of battles with them.

Senior Tory backbench Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg yesterday branded the Treasury "a bastion of Remoanerism" ahead of the annual national blueprint for taxes and spending.

But Treasury sources say the department has been working on plans for the coin in secret for months, before Tory MPs began to lobby for one over the summer.

Mr Hammond has now issued an order to the Royal Mint advisory committee to draw up a design for the coin, which will be signed off later this year.

But The Sun has been told that the 'friendship with all nations' phrase instead of any symbol is the firm preference of ministers for its reverse side.

Mr Hammond wants to use the coin to ram home Brexit’s positive opportunities, as it is expected to be very popular with Leave voters.

The coin will also have Brexit’s date on it, enshrined around the monarch’s image.

The Sun Says

NEVER can a Budget announcement over 50p have been so warmly welcomed.

In a victory for The Sun, Philip Hammond will today announce a commemorative Brexit 50p coin, available from March 29, 2019, to mark the moment we leave the EU.

It will have the Queen’s head on one side and the phrase “Friendship with all nations” on the other — exactly the type of positive, outward-looking message we want to send.

Despite the Remain naysayers’ claims, Britain remains a top global financial, diplomatic and military power.

Unshackled from the EU, we will boom as a global business hub by developing new relationships.

Despite the Government’s commemorative move, the Royal Mail refuses to release a Brexit stamp, claiming our exit will not be “an important anniversary”. What a load of codswallop!

They thought it was appropriate to issue stamps commemorating TV show Game Of Thrones and for when we joined the EEC in 1973 and the Single Market in 1992 . . .

Royal Mail bosses clearly detest the democratic decision to leave the EU.

But for them to pretend Brexit is not a genuinely significant historical moment is first-class buffoonery.

The Royal Mail – which is no longer under the Government’s control - has repeatedly refused to issue a commemorative Brexit stamp, insisting the event is still too politically controversial.

A 50p coin was issued to mark Britain’s entry into the European Economic Community in 1973, as well as our 25th anniversary of joining in 1998.

Commemorative coins were also made this year to mark Prince Harry and Meghan’s Royal Wedding and 100 years of the Royal Air Force.
