Mayor demands all registered sex offenders are put in PRISON over Halloween so they can’t prey on trick or treating kids
Gary E. Jones said sex offenders in Grovetown, Georgia will be forced to stay in city hall during the evening of October 31
ALL sex offenders in one city will be locked up over Halloween to keep local children safe while out trick-or-treating.
Mayor Gary E. Jones took to Facebook to announce his decision to temporarily imprison the 25-30 registered offenders in Grovetown, Georgia this year.
Five officers will keep watch over the offenders at the local city hall on the night of October 31 as kids and their parents are out for the holiday.
On Facebook, Mayor Jones wrote: "In order to ensure the safety of our children, all sex offenders (on Probation) in the City of Grovetown (area) will be housed in the Council Chambers on Halloween night from 6pm-9pm.
"There are approx. 25-30 offenders and they will be overseen by the GA Dept. of Community Supervision District 10 (4 officers) and accompanied by one Grovetown Officer."
The controversial decision divided opinion among the city's residents who angrily argued about it in the comments below the post.
Beatrice Genitski wrote: "Wow... You know, I think this is a terrible idea.
"I am absolutely against any kind of sex abuse to children or anyone, but these 'offenders' have paid their debt to society."
Shelby Burwinkel agreed, saying: "The parents should be supervising their children."
But some locals thought that the mayor's plan didn't go far enough.
