DRY with sunny spells for most parts of the UK while remaining wet in north and west Scotland, with heavy rain at times. It will be breezy for most, but windy with gales in Scotland and northern England.

Wednesday and Thursday are set to be less windy with sunshine in the south and east but wet in the northwest. The outlook for Friday is windy with showers and lower temperatures and snow over high ground.

A NOTICEABLY colder weekend at the end of October will bring frosty and even icy starts. A cold northerly wind may be touching gale force in parts of the north and northeast.

Daytime will see sunshine and showers which could bring a mixture of sleet and snow to the tops of the hills and mountains in the north, but perhaps to lower levels at times in parts of Scotland.

The forecast becomes more uncertain into the following week. It could be drier and more settled at the start of the week, before a return of wet and windy weather. Generally cold with overnight frost.
