Fury as aid charities will receive £1,000,000 handout to help them root out sex pests

Aid Secretary Penny Mordaunt is set to unveil a package of support for foreign aid organisations, swamped with more than 2,000 sexual harassment complaints

OUTRAGE erupted last night after ministers announced taxpayers’ money will be spent helping charities identify sex pests.

Aid Secretary Penny Mordaunt will unveil a new £1million package of support for foreign aid organisations who have been swamped with more than 2,000 sexual harassment complaints since the Oxfam sex abuse scandal erupted in February.

Among the measures she will unveil at a summit to tackle sexual exploitation in foreign aid organisations today will be a new passport for aid workers to prove their identity, provide background information and vetting status.

It will make it easier for organisations who spend our £14 billion a year aid budget to find sexual predators.

But Tory MPs said it was outrageous that charities continued to get taxpayers’ money when they had failed to throw out sex pests.

Tory MP Andrew Bridgen blasted: “Following the recent Aid sex scandals any Charity which is unable or unwilling of its own volition to put in place measures to protect the recipients of their aid from sexual abuse by their own staff , should not be in receipt of any taxpayers money and indeed should be shut down immediately.”

The move comes after shocking figures revealed ten complaints of sexual harassment, bullying and other harmful cases are made every day within UK charities.

Ms Mordaunt will also pledge to impose travel bans on sexual predators working in the charity sector.

She will launch a new worldwide database of sex pests. It will use Interpol’s green-notice system that issues global alerts on individuals who pose a “threat to public safety” to ensure foreign aid organisations know if potential workers have a history of sexual harassment or assault.

The radical action comes after shocking revelations earlier this year that Oxfam and Save the Children allowed former employees to work for other charities in the sector despite being suspected of sex abuse in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake.
