WINTER IS COMING

UK weather forecast: Temperatures to drop to -3C TONIGHT before arctic air blasts Britain this weekend

THE Met Office has forecast chilly Arctic air set to cool the UK to freezing temperatures after the UK basked in the unusually warm Autumnal weather yesterday.

BRITAIN is set to be hit by -3C temperatures tonight before an arctic blast hits this weekend.

The Met Office says parts of northern England and Scotland will dip below freezing overnight.

And forecasters have warned a plume of arctic air over the US and Canada is set to sweep in over the Atlantic and hit the UK this weekend.

It will spark freezing temperatures and front next week.

The cold snap follows days of balmy 23C temperatures and glorious sunshine earlier this week.

A Met Office spokesperson told The Sun: "Temperatures have been above average for quite a few places across the UK for the last couple of days, it’s been quite mild.

"But actually we’re seeing a cold front move its way south east across the country today.

"We’ve got cooler air filtering in from the North West and that cooler air will be with us as we look into the beginning of next week."

News of the freeze comes after Brits basked in balmy 23C sunshine yesterday during an extremely warm October.

But northern regions will be the first to feel the cold sweep in as clear skies could even mean frosts and fog tonight.

Further south, there'll be more cloud and some showers, but thankfully no snow is on the horizon any time soon.

The Met Office spokesperson added: "As we go through the next few days there will be some chilly nights in store and some patches of frost around overnight wherever the skies are clear.

"Tonight it’s really going to be across the northern half of the UK that we’ll be looking at where could be a risk of some frost, but then over the next few days they could really pop up anywhere where skies are clear because everyone will be in that cooler air.

"Through next week, it looks like we’re going to have a North West/South East split.

"It will often be cloudier across the North West with some stronger winds and probably some spells of rain at times, whereas further South East it will generally be drier and brighter with some sunshine."

Today there will be patchy rain in the south but it should be mostly sunny elsewhere, with temperatures generally in the mid-teens around the country.
