MOTORWAY MADNESS

Driver was so high on drugs on M60 he didn’t realise his WHEEL was missing

The driver was pulled over and he was arrested and provided a 'positive roadside sample in relation to drugs'

A DRIVER was so high on drugs on the M60 he didn’t notice that he had lost a wheel.

North West Motorway Police shared the images of the battered red Citroen on Twitter.

The hatchback was stopped on the M60 between junctions 23 and 24, Ashton-under-Lyne and Denton, and it is unclear how far it travelled.

There are suggestions the car had been driven all the way from West Yorkshire, which is where it is registered.

The unnamed motorist took the busy motorway at about 10am Monday morning.

Police said they were alerted after multiple motorists called 999 to report the driver.

When the motorist was pulled over he was arrested and provided a “positive roadside sample in relation to drugs”.

Police are only able to carry out roadside tests for cannabis and cocaine.

The images show how the red car had extensive damage on the ride side along with a missing wing mirror.

The headlight on the left side of the car was missing and the metal underneath was crushed.

The back-right wheel is completely gone and the rims are severely bent and damaged.

The car is also uninsured.

It is understood the Citroen was towed away and it is not known if there were any passengers on board at the time.

North West Motorway Police added on Twitter that it “wasn’t a wind-up”.

Police said: “Numerous calls from the public reporting a red Citroen driving on its rims.

"Patrols locate the vehicle on the M60 and the driver has been arrested following a positive roadside sample in relation to drugs.

"This is not a wind up, vehicle in question has not been involved in an accident today.

"Driver under the influence of drugs has entered the network thinking this is acceptable."

Insp Neil Anson said the man would be questioned of driving under the influence of drugs and other serious driving offences.

He said: “I have not seen a vehicle like that come onto the motorway network before.

"It beggars belief really. It had one full tyre missing. There were plenty of motorists phoning it in to us.

"It was completely unroadworthy and the driver will now be questioned."

Insp Anson said it is not known how far the car travelled, but it was on the motorway for “quite a few junctions” before puling over.
