Homeless people in Windsor WON’T be kicked off streets for £2million royal wedding as they look forward to Princess Eugenie’s ‘special day’
ROUGH sleepers in Windsor have today said they WON'T be moved for Princess Eugenie's £2million wedding.
The local council was accused of ordering the town's homeless to clear the streets ahead of the lavish royal bash on Friday.
Princess Eugenie will marry Jack Brooksbank, a wine merchant, in St George's Chapel in Windsor on Friday.
But today rough sleepers and council chiefs have rubbished the claims.
Town hall officials have offered homeless in Windsor a safe "lock up" to store their property and get it off the streets to avoid sparking terror alerts.
Homeless Kevin, who hails from Liverpool and lives on the streets with his four-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier Diamond, is looking forward to the wedding.
He told The Sun:"I don't want [Eugenie] to think we're putting her down, because it's a special day for her.
"The council has not said anything to us. They've been great for us so have the police."
James who said he hailed from Slough has been sleeping rough in Windsor for four months.
He said: "The wardens are not aggressive or anything. They gave us a head's up. They said the council might remove everyone's stuff and put it in a lock-up nearby during the early hours of Friday morning.
"They are giving us a choice. They just said 'don't leave your baggage unattended in the street, because it might be removed for security'.
"I can see where they're coming from, for terrorism and that sort of thing."
A spokesman for Windsor and Maidenhead borough council said: “As with any large event, we have offered a facility to our most vulnerable people in the community on the day of the wedding in conjunction with Windsor Homeless Project should they not want to join in the celebrations.
"This is an offer not an order. If people are happy to stay put they are able to do so.
“We have also offered a safe place to store their possessions to ensure they are not inadvertently removed by the police as part of their security measures. Again this is an offer of support not an order.
“We would never force a vulnerable person to take us up on these offers of support and any suggestion otherwise is untrue.”
The wedding ceremony may cost taxpayers £2million — compared to Harry and Meghan’s estimated £4million bill.
Figures are said to have rocketed after both couples opted for a carriage ride through the streets before ceremonies at Windsor Castle.
But it emerged Eugenie, 28, and Jack Brooksbank, 32, could have slashed the bill by marrying at the nearby Royal Chapel of All Saints, opposite her childhood home Royal Lodge.
In the lead up to the wedding adorable pictures of the bride and groom as children have been shared.
The pair look angelic in these photographs released by the Queen's granddaughter ahead of her wedding this Friday.
Wardens were reportedly spotted removing sleeping bags and other belongings in Windsor as security was beefed up ahead of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Royal Wedding, last summer.
Eugenie and Jack are holding their evening reception at the venue, where Prince Andrew still lives.
A source said: “The security would be simple and cheap because it’s not open to the public. Harry and Meghan’s wedding was very different.
