The bizarre incident took place on a Frontier Airlines flight from Orlando to Cleveland on Tuesday, October 9.

According to a Frontier Airlines official, the passenger did declare that she would be bringing an “emotional support animal” onto the aircraft with her but did not state that it was a squirrel.

A number of airlines, including Frontier, do not allow rodents of any kind to be brought on board.

A Frontier spokeswoman said: “Rodents, including squirrels, are not allowed on Frontier flights. The passenger was advised of the policy and asked to deplane.”

Despite the airline's policies, the defiant passenger repeatedly refused to get off.

As a precaution, all other passengers on board were asked to leave the cabin.

Authorities were then forced to call in Orlando police to intervene.

The woman was finally escorted off the aircraft and taken into Orlando International Airport’s main terminal, despite her angry outbursts.

She was removed in a wheelchair as she continued her protest, even giving the middle finger to irate passengers near her.

She then threw her fist in the air with a ‘thumbs up’ gesture.

The fiasco delayed the aircraft’s departure by two hours.

Angry passengers took to Twitter to express their outrage.

Brandon Nixon tweeted: “So im flying back to cleveland and everyone got on the plane then was asked to exit the plane. Only to later find out a woman brought a squirrel in her carry on and labeled it as her emotional support pet. Then refuses to get off the plane until the cops come.”

He added later: “You can’t make this stuff up”, alongside video showing hundreds of passengers waiting in the departure lounge.

Another has questioned how the animal ended up on the plane in the first place: “I can’t believe security allowed the squirrel through!”
