Paedophile jailed for 18 years for sickening sex attacks on children ‘tried to torch himself in police car’
A vile paedophile who has been banged up for 18 years has tried to kill himself several times, including slashing his own throat and setting himself on fire, a former girlfriend has said
A CONVICTED paedophile tried to kill himself several times, including setting himself on fire in the back of a police car, a former girlfriend has said.
Joanne – not her real name – has spoken out after Stuart Wainman, 49, from Birmingham was jailed for 18 years for a number of sex attacks on children.
Wainman was found guilty of two charges of rape of a child under 13, five charges of rape and two counts of sexually assaulting a child.
Both of his victims gave evidence via video link and behind screens.
She said he had tried a couple of times to slit his own throat as well as trying to torch himself.
Joanne, speaking to , says he tried twice to slit his own throat.
In one attempt she claimed the suicide bid was witnessed by youngsters in a park.
She believes the violent alcoholic, who could “easily” down two litres of vodka a day, will try again in prison.
She said: “I wouldn’t be surprised if he topped himself, I’d be over the moon if he topped himself. Then again, I’d like to see him suffer.”
Joanne added: “He cut his wrists, he slit his throat.
“He was vile. He even set himself alight in the back of a police car. Somehow, he had a lighter and set himself on fire.
“He did have a drink problem, but, in all fairness, so did I, but not to anything near that extent.
“He was drinking all the time – two litres of vodka was easy.
“I was very scared of him. My grandmother died and I went up there. When I got back, he accused me of smelling as if I’d had sex, and held a knife to my throat.”
She claimed not to know about him being a paedophile, saying she “didn’t know he was capable” of that.
Joanne also described the violence Wainman inflicted on her, adding he “used to really lay into me”.
She said: “He hit me, he kicked me, he head-butted me. Once he held a knife to my throat.
"I’ve suffered a broken nose and black eyes.”
But she added: “I am not scared of that man any more.
"He is somewhere where he can’t hurt me any more.”
