NORTHERNERS are funnier than Southerners, a new study can finally reveal.
Even southerners agree their northern counterparts earn more laughs, with 74 per cent of voters saying they were the nations' best comics.
The poll by Comedy Central Live surveyed 1,500 Brits, with half from the South and half from the North.
Liverpool, known for producing comics John Bishop, Ken Dodd and Les Dennis, were voted the funniest after earning 23 per cent of the vote.
Brighton received a tiny two per cent, leaving them rock bottom of the table, while boring Belfast, Birmingham and Bristol shared three per cent.
Newcastle, home of Sarah Millican, took second spot with 14 per cent, while London had to settle for third, claiming 12 per cent of the vote.
It seems no surprise the home city of Billy Connolly and controversial comic Frankie Boyle was voted to have the dirtiest jokers, with Glasgow winning that vote on 12 per cent.
The study also found that Britons laughed out loud 11 times a day on average, but 17 per cent did admit nobody ever laughed at their jokes.
