Mum Sarah said her seven-year-old daughter was caught up in the chaos as she rode the Crazy Train,

She said: "The wheel just flew off and the ride stopped.

"Children are crying and screaming - including my daughter - it’s just awful.”

Another witness recounted how she heard an "almighty crash" with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service rushing the park just after 1pm.

The park is believed to have been particularly busy this weekend after hosting a special NHS celebration, with NHS staff members allowed to get in for free on September 15 and 16.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters were called to Gulllivers World in Shackleton Close, Warrington following reports of approximately 21 people trapped on a roller coaster ride.

"Crews, with the help of Gullivers World staff and paramedics worked to rescue them.

"They used ladders to help get to the people trapped on the ride which was approximately 50ft high up.

"They secured the carriages to ensure they were stable.

"A scaffolding tower was then built and those trapped continued to be freed and brought to safety. The line rescue team set up a twin line lowering system to rescue three people.

"It is not believed there are any injuries. The last remaining are being brought down."

A spokesman for Gulliver's World said: "The emergency services were required to assist with aiding guests from the ride.

"Due to the quick response of the Gulliver’s team and use of their on-site evacuation equipment all individuals were escorted safely off the ride with no injuries reported. Fire and rescue services have praised Gulliver’s World staff for their assertive actions.

Police are not treating it as a "major" incident.
