Home and garden shop The Range apologises over ‘rocking zombie child’ Halloween display after parents complain its terrifying kids

Outraged parents have called for the ghoulish figure to be removed from the shop window in Plymstock, near Plymouth, Devon

A SHOP has apologised over a "rocking zombie child" window display that has been terrifying children.

The ghoulish figure, which has no eyes, left young kids "jumping out of their skin" at The Range in Plymstock, near Plymouth, Devon.

Mum Lisabeth Jones, 36, was shopping with for storage boxes with her children, aged two and six, when she spotted the horror show.

She told : "I was disturbed by these models, let alone them (my children).

"I’m praying it doesn’t cause them nightmares.

Lisabeth complained to the customer services over the dead child exhibit, which rocks as you walk past it.

In a message on a Facebook, she added: "My two-year-old jumped out of his skin when one of them moved.

"This is too much to be displayed in such a prominent position."

"Please reconsider to ensure it is child-appropriate."

Other parents have taken to social media to vent their outrage at the display.

One dad wrote: "I have felt unable to go to the range with my children for several years in October but starting this early is a real disappointment.

"Clearly we can’t go shopping in The Range until November."

Another parent said: "This is absolutely over the top. What a horrible display.

"Shame on you The Range!"

However, some shoppers have leapt to the defence of the store.

One tweeted: "Seriously, it's a bit of fun, I mean how nannied are those kids if that display scares them?"

Another wrote: "Honestly some people just look for reasons to be offended."

The Range has since apologised.

A spokesperson said: "Our ‘Haunted Hallows’ products are intended to celebrate the fun side of Halloween with elaborate decorations that include a variety of characters.

"We are obviously sorry to hear that some of our customers have found the display inappropriate, however we have also had a great deal of positive feedback from other customers who enjoy this side of Halloween.

"We have tried to include a wide spectrum of items in the ‘Haunted Hallows’ collection, from skull light strings to the larger characters, so we hope that there will be something for everyone to enjoy, however they plan to spend their Halloween.”
