Gym opens ‘SELFIE room’ because members were taking so many photos in the workout area it was making others feel uncomfortable
A gym in Christchurch, New Zealand has created a 'selfie room' so users can document their fitness progress
A GYM in New Zealand has installed a special “selfie room” so fitness bunnies can document their workout.
Anytime Fitness Hornby in Christchurch has set up the room with large mirrors and special lighting so it highlights your physique in the best possible way.
The gym’s manager said some of its customers were feeling uncomfortable when others pulled out their mobiles to pose for a quick snap to document their workout.
Manager Xenia Traill told : “We do have the kind of gym members who do want to take photos on the floor.
“We have club members who take their tops off to take photos, which is cool because they are confident, but the thing is it can make other people feel slightly uncomfortable.”
In a Facebook post the gym said they wanted their members to use the selfie room to focus on their fitness progress only rather than just body image.
It said: “We have created Christchurch's very first Selfie Room for you. Yes, we know how many of you love taking gym selfies.
"Body positivity is so important to us and tracking the progress of your health and fitness journey is so rewarding.
“Progress photos to track your changes and results are super motivating and a great motive to keep pushing harder, so we created this space for you to be able to take your gym selfies in private. Hard work pays off team.
“If you wish to post any of the progress photos online, we’d LOVE to see your results so for us to see. Gym selfies are SO in right now, so keep us posted.
“Happy selfie taking!”
Traill added the gym had not received any complaints and got the idea from a gym in the UK which had a “selfie room” and thought they would create their own.
The global fitness chain has more than 4,000 franchises in 30 countries and was founded in 2002 in the United States.
