student visa fear

Immigration campaigners have warned ministers not to reopen the floodgates by caving in to demands by university bosses

MIGRATION crusaders urged ministers not to bring back foreign student two-year visas.

Universities and Boris Johnson urged a restart of the scheme to let them stay after courses end.

But Migration Watch’s Alp Mehmet warned of an unskilled influx. He said: “There’s no reason they should stay on, even to stack shelves.

“The last time ministers investigated, only one in four had skilled work.”

Since the scheme’s 2012 axe, overseas students here have risen three per cent but by up to 57 per cent in the US and Canada.

BoJo said: “We must do more to attract the best overseas students.”
