Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram DOWN as hundreds take to Twitter to complain
The outage appears to have affected thousands of people across the globe
SOCIAL media users are facing a black out this evening as Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram are down, sending users across the world into a frenzy.
People across the globe took to Twitter to find out if the issue had affected others.
According to DownDetector.com areas across North America, Europe, and northern Africa have been experiencing problems with the apps since 9.30pm GMT.
Users have also reported problems using Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp.
Within an hour of the outage across the social media platforms, thousands took to Twitter to complain.
Some users reported having problems signing in, posting, commenting and updating their newsfeeds on Facebook.
Others reported having issues as Facebook messenger would not load.
On Instagram, users said they couldn't access recent posts or messages while those using WhatsApp said they couldn't connect to the service or send and receive messages.
In an error message on its site, Facebook said: "Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue.
"We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes."
