Examples of officers being given just a warning include one in Devon and Cornwall who kissed a vulnerable adult.

A Staffordshire cop was allowed to keep his job after making sexual comments to a member of the public then touching them.

Some 35 forces across England and Wales which replied to a Freedom of Information request said 96 officers were reprimanded in the past three years.

But 61 per cent kept their job.

Chief Constable Mike Cunningham, College of Policing CEO, said: “There is no place in policing for those who abuse their position or authority for a sexual purpose, and the public rightly expects everyone in policing to act with integrity.

“Last year the College of Policing introduced new guidance for police which makes clear that no officer or staff member should engage in this behaviour, on or off duty, with any member of the public they meet through work.

Julie Cooper, Labour MP for Burnley, said: “This is quite shocking. I would want to see strong action taken against anyone who commits acts of sexual harassment. Police can’t be above the law.”

Derbyshire and West Yorkshire each had ten disciplined.

Officers fired include a West Yorkshire cop who started a relationship with a sex worker and one at Lancashire who was dubbed a “sex pest” by colleagues.
