The teen, from West Yorkshire, didn’t return from his hike up the mountain in Scotland’s north west and emergency services were called.

Murray was found by a coastguard helicopter and his body recovered by mountain rescue.

Timothy’s family released a statement through Police Scotland saying: “It is a very sad loss and Timothy was a lovely son. We would ask that our privacy is respected at this difficult time.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a 16-year-old boy has died as a result of a fall while walking on Stac Pollaidh north of Ullapool.

“He was located a short time later by the HM Coastguard helicopter and his body was recovered by Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team."

The tragedy came on the same day a 17-year-old boy died after falling from cliffs at a beauty spot in North Wales.
