A RUGBY league star filmed baggage handlers hurling luggage at Manchester Airport as travellers were made to wait up to four hours for their suitcases.
Daniel Mortimer, who plays for Leigh Centurions, was horrified to watch workers mindlessly chuck heavy cases onto the airport carousel in front of tired passengers.
He wrote on Twitter: "5am this morning after waiting over 3 hours for our bags to make it from the plane to the carousel.. at least they took good care of our luggage.
"Thanks @manairport #shambles #manchesterairport #goodhustle."
It comes after holidaymakers returned to the airport yesterday and were forced to kip down on the floor and wait.
Some passengers complained they got little or no information from the few staff that were working at the start of the Bank Holiday.
Footage shows young families being forced to try to get some sleep wherever they could in Terminal 3.
Small bottles of water were handed out but these were only estimated to have been a few hundred for a crowd said to be between 500 and 1,000.
The problems appear to have been caused by several flights all arriving at almost the same time and the airport only have a skeleton staff on due to the bank holiday.
A lot of angry customers took to social media to vent their anger.
Danny Barnes wrote on Twitter: “This is a joke! Some people have been waiting here for over 3 hours for there cases! There’s young children here that need feeding! Absolute joke!”
Dan Jewell tweeted: “Hilarious lack of crisis management from @manairport 2 to 3 hour wait for baggage in terminal three. No announcements. No information.
"But they’ve just told everyone that the (extortionate) car parking charges are being reduced for those who are “worried”
Jamie Beddard added: “Whoever’s to blame for the absolute shambles at @manairport terminal 3 needs to take a long hard look at themselves.
Absolute f***ing joke. People waiting 3 hours for luggage, children and women sleeping on the floors.
Sun Online have contacted Swissport for comment.
A Swissport spokeswoman said the firm realised the delays were "frustrating to passengers".
She told the BBC: "We always work closely with our airline and airport partners to mitigate the impact of these schedule disruptions to passengers, but we understand these delays were frustrating to passengers during this busy bank holiday period."
