Pensioner couple ‘beaten up and SET ON FIRE by gang thugs as they visited daughter at caravan park’

George and Martha Stewart 'lucky to get out alive' from the Longman Caravan Park in Inverness after their car was rammed off the road and doused in petrol

THUGS attacked a pensioner couple by pouring petrol into their car and setting it alight, leaving them both with horrific injuries.

Martha Stewart, 61, and husband George, 67, were visiting their daughter in a caravan park on Sunday when a group of six men surrounded their car.

: "Her skull was visible and she was losing a lot of blood."

The couple's granddaughter, Demi Stewart, posted shocking photos of the couple's injuries to Facebook and wrote a furious post.

She said: “This is what the scumbags have done to my Granda and Granny.

“Poured petrol over the top of them and rammed their car and set them alight also attacked my Granda a 70-year-old man and 60-odd-year-old woman, who was lying unconscious in the back of a flaming car, scumbags.

The couple, from Elgin, have been described as a "quiet living" travellers.
 A family member said: "They were incredibly lucky to get out alive.

“Martha’s daughter risked her own life to pull her mum out of the burning car and George was covered in flames trying to help them. It was awful.

"We are just trying to come to terms with what’s happened. They were just visiting their daughter, nobody thought it would kick off like this.”
