Pensioner couple ‘beaten up and SET ON FIRE by gang thugs as they visited daughter at caravan park’
George and Martha Stewart 'lucky to get out alive' from the Longman Caravan Park in Inverness after their car was rammed off the road and doused in petrol
THUGS attacked a pensioner couple by pouring petrol into their car and setting it alight, leaving them both with horrific injuries.
Martha Stewart, 61, and husband George, 67, were visiting their daughter in a caravan park on Sunday when a group of six men surrounded their car.
The gang rammed the couple's car off the road using another vehicle before pouring petrol into the grandparents' car while they were still inside.
George and Martha were instantly engulfed in flames but luckily a family member spotted them and managed to get them out.
It is believed that the attack may be linked to a feud with another family at the Longman Caravan Park where the incident took place.
George's back was covered with large blisters and he suffered 20 per cent burns to his back, face and shoulders.
Martha needed nine stitches to her head which was badly injured.
A source close to the family told : "Her skull was visible and she was losing a lot of blood."
The couple's granddaughter, Demi Stewart, posted shocking photos of the couple's injuries to Facebook and wrote a furious post.
She said: “This is what the scumbags have done to my Granda and Granny.
“Poured petrol over the top of them and rammed their car and set them alight also attacked my Granda a 70-year-old man and 60-odd-year-old woman, who was lying unconscious in the back of a flaming car, scumbags.
“World needs to see what these lowlife scumbags are like.”
