Rapist cop Stephen Mitchell ‘gave vulnerable woman heroin after they had sex in his car’
Troubled Carrieanne Downs later died of a drug overdose while six months pregnant
RAPIST cop Stephen Mitchell gave a vulnerable woman heroin for sex before she died of a drug overdose while heavily pregnant, her traumatised family have said.
Carrieanne Downs was ignored when she warned police about serial sex attacker Mitchell, who was recently freed from prison after serving only seven years of a double life sentence.
Troubled Carrieanne claimed uniformed PC Mitchell said "you're gorgeous, you're pretty" as he offered to get her bail after she was arrested in 2000.
She was 20 at the time and working as an escort to fund her drug addiction.
Because she was "always getting arrested", she believed it would "be useful to have a police officer on her side, particularly one who could get bail," prosecutors said at Mitchell's trial.
Carrieanne said he drove her to a quiet park and began "flirting" before they had sex in his car.
As he left Mitchell gave her a small bag of heroin which "he had taken from somebody," she claimed.
Years later she raised the incident with detectives as her life spiralled further out of control, according to her dad Paul Downs. Michtell was cleared of misconduct.
Then 18 months later in 2012, when she was 31-year-old and six months pregnant, Carrieanne took an overdose that killed her.
Her baby Zeva Tia was delivered but died days later.
Glasgow-born Mitchell was later arrested for preying on up to 30 women he had arrested during a five-year reign of horrific abuse. He was ordered to serve two life sentences for his crimes.
But two weeks ago, after seven years behind bars, he was pictured enjoying his freedom riding a £500 bike near his home in Scotland.
Carrieanne’s devastated dad Paul, 67, told : "There's no way Mitchell should have been released. It's a disgrace."

He insisted if police had listened to his daughter earlier other victims of the sex monster could have been spared.
“Carrieanne complained about Mitchell plenty of times. She told detectives more than seven times but they took no notice of her. The police hated her. It’s as simple as that," grieving Paul explained.
Former pub landlord Paul, from Newcastle, said"she was in pieces" following her meeting with Mitchell, adding: "But she wasn’t the only one going through it. She knew other girls who suffered as well.”
