JULIAN Dunkerton is the man behind the popular clothing brand Superdry which now has more than 500 stores in 40 countries.
In August 2018 he donated £1 million to the People’s Vote Campaign, who are campaigning to hold a second referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union.
Who is Julian Dunkerton?
The 53-year-old was born in March 1965 and educated at Ibstock Place School, London and Orleans Park School, Twickenham before his family moved to Herefordshire where he attended the Minster School.
He founded the Cult Clothing Co when he was 19 with his business partner Ian Hibbs with a £2,000 loan.
They started selling their clothing from an indoor market stall in Cheltenham.
Over 15 years they built the brand up into a chain of stores with a turnover of £17million.
Dunkerton and James Holder opened Superdry in 2003.
In 2010 it was floated on the London Stock Exchange with a market evaluation of £400m.
By January 2018 it had 500 stores in 40 countries.
In 2015 Dunkerton stepped down as chief executive of Superdry but remained on the board, becoming the brand founder and product development director.
He left Superdry in April 2018 to focus on his other business interests, such as cider making and The Lucky Onion, a collection of boutique hotels, pubs and restaurants.

No precise figures exist but it was reported in he had a personal fortune of £441m.
He sold just under £50m of shares in February 2016 to fund his divorce from his first wife Charlotte Abbot.
