A GRIEVING son claims undertakers handed over his beloved mother’s ashes in a paper bag.
William McKenzie, 37, says mum Isobell's remain were put in the “takeaway” pouch after a funeral dispute in Glasgow.
He raged: “I have to look at my mum in this.”
Cops were called to James Hardie Funeral Services after staff and Isobell's family had a bust-up.
Two men and two women have been reported by police after tempers flared inside the undertakers over the cremated remains of the 78-year-old cancer victim.
William revealed relatives complained they were unhappy about the service — before workers handed over the filled paper pouch and ushered them out on Thursday.
Last night William said: “My sister and her man went to pick the ashes up and that’s what she was given.
"That’s what caused all the turmoil.
“They said they were phoning the police, so my sister said, ‘Phone the police, we’ll wait here’.”
He then hit out at funeral firm bosses based in nearby Shettleston.
William added: “They sat and promised me they would take care of my mother. It was like a rush job to get you out the door.”
Scaffolder William also claims around 20 of his relatives had to stand in the rain while the family said goodbye to Isobell two at a time as she lay in a tiny room.
He also said staff refused to open car doors at Isobell’s funeral at Daldowie crematorium on Tuesday following her death on August 9.
William added: “The whole way we were treated was disgusting. The flowers we paid for were a mess, they were so small.
“We’d booked a hearse and two motors but the staff from James Hardie wouldn’t even open the car doors for us, they just stood about.
“Relatives had to stand in the pouring rain outside the undertakers as my mum’s coffin was in a tiny room and only two people could get in at a time to see her.”
But William claims they were given a partial refund after complaining about the service.
He also says loved ones will buy an urn and memorial bench at the crematorium so Isobell and his late dad can be at peace together.
