Stunning chapel nestled on remote Cornish coast is transformed into idyllic romantic bolthole
For those looking for a break from city life, the luxury renovated property can be rented for up to £2,450 a week
A FORMER chapel on the Cornish coast has been transformed into an idyllic romantic bolthole - and you have to see the pics to believe it.
Aphrodite was a Methodist chapel until it was bought five years ago, and the luxury renovated property can now be rented for up to £2,450 a week.
The owners have given it a makeover with a nod to its ecclesiastical past, with upcycled church pews and a lectern complimenting the arched and stained glass windows.
As well as having stylish interiors, the quirky holiday home is placed between the historic village of Tintagel and the picturesque fishing port of Boscastle.
The property was originally built as two cottages as part of the Trevalga Estate, a 1,200-acre estate that includes the walled village.
The estate was left in a trust to Marlborough College in Wiltshire by the last private owner, Gerald Curgenven, after his death in 1959.
The two cottages were replaced with the chapel about 100 years ago.
The current owners bought the property in 2013, carrying out a four-month renovation to create an "angelic" style.
It is now a tranquil haven, laid out over five floors, with a master bedroom with a king-size bed, a bath tub hidden under a stone archway, a monsoon shower wet room, a cosy living room with woodburner and a modern kitchen/dining area.
There is also a summer house across the lane from the cottage where guests can watch magnificent sunsets over the Atlantic.
The South West Coast Path is just minutes away from the property, with Boscastle a two-mile walk.
Guests can trek through the ancient woodlands of St Nectan's Glen or continue along the cliffs to descend a steep track through the Vale of Avalon to Tintagel Castle and Merlin's cave.
A spokesman for Unique Home Stays, who rent out the property, said: "The features the owners love are the arched window looking out to sea, the attention to detail in every nook and cranny, the flagstone floors, round woodburner and carved stonework.
"In just about every room there is an arched window with sea views and the quirky garden has secret hideaway corners and again has stunning sea views.
"Aphrodite is really very special and definitely has the wow factor."
