Police probe death of six-month-old baby girl who was found ill at her Glasgow home

COPS have launched an investigation after a baby found ill at home died in hospital.

Blake Smith passed away yesterday after she was found unwell at her home in Glasgow.

Officers said that the death was currently being treated as unexplained.

Tributes have been paid to the child after the tragedy.

One heartbroken neighbour hailed the "absolutely beautiful" tot.

She said: "It's absolutely tragic.

"We saw the ambulance outside yesterday and the police came shortly after.

"I found out today that a baby had died.

"I saw the little one in passing and she was absolutely beautiful.

"It's terrible."

It is understood baby Blake's heartbroken parents are being comforted by relatives.

Floral tributes were laid outside the flat - where police stood guard on Tuesday afternoon.

We told you earlier how police said the infant had been found ill at a property in the Castlemilk area of the city.

A post-mortem is set to take place.

And police enquiries are ongoing.

Cops said that they are treating the death as unexplained.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Inquiries are continuing following the death of a six-month-old baby at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after they were found unwell in their home in Castlemilk on Monday, August 6.

“Post Mortem will take place in due course however at this time, his death is being treated as unexplained.”
