What time do results come out today and how do I get them?

Results for National 4 and 5s, Highers and Advanced Highers will be published from 8am today, Tuesday August 7.

The majority of the 135,000 pupils will receive their grades by post.

Of that number, around 59,000 youngsters have signed up to MySQA to find out by text message and email.

Texts are expected to arrive immediately, while emails could take slightly longer.

Results letters will arrive by first class post - though slightly delays could be caused due to the increased volume.

If for some reason your certificate doesn’t arrive, call your school/college immediately and they can tell you your results.

What's the difference between exams in Scotland and the rest of the UK?

Highers are equivalent to AS-levels, while at some schools in Scotland students are required to study to Advanced Highers.

Scottish university courses tend to last four years rather than the English norm of three, which is seen to compensate for the loss of one year's schooling.

National 4 and 5 qualifications were introduced in 2014 and take the place of Standard Grades in Scotland.

In England, Wales and Northern Ireland 15 and 16-year-olds sit GCSEs - which are the rough equivalent of the National 4 and 5s.

Depending on the school, around five to eight subjects are taken in National 4 and around five subjects in National 5.

Adding to the potential confusion, the school year in Scotland runs from March 1 to the end of February, rather than September to August as in the rest of the UK.
