Tributes to ‘brave, beautiful, kind hearted’ boy, 16, who died four days after he was swept out to sea in Wales

A TEEN boy rescued at sea in Wales has died after having his life support machine turned off.

Blake Ward, 16, got into difficulty while swimming in the sea during a family trip on Tuesday.

He and two other teenagers had to be rescued by the RNLI and Coastguard after reports they were in difficulty near rocks at Tywyn promenade.

The teen was airlifted to hospital.

But sadly Blake, from Dudley in Birmingham, died on Saturday morning.

The Coastguard did a flypast just after hearing the news and a minutes silence was held at the beach.

In a heartfelt tribute, Becky Ray, mum to his girlfriend, said: “Blake, our beautiful, brave, kind hearted, clever boy sadly passed away at 7.03 this morning.

“Even though he hadn’t been part of our family for long his loss has left us beyond devastated and heartbroken.”

Blake and the two other teenagers had been on a family trip.

Volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew were called out at 1.11pm on Tuesday after reports of people in difficulty on the rocks.

A rescue operation involving HM Coastguard and North Wales Police was able to rescue two people and after a search of the coastline and with help from members of the public they found Blake.

Coastguard teams tried to resuscitate him on the beach and he was then taken by air ambulance to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.
