Jeremy Corbyn defended an ‘anti-semitic’ politician from hecklers after she claimed ‘holocaust guilt’ stopped any criticism of Israel
At the event for the Palestine Return Centre, the Labour leader shouted at a heckler who reacted after panellist Baroness Jenny Tonge claimed that "they" use accusations of anti-Semitism to shut down criticism of Israel in Parliament.
JEREMY Corbyn defended a disgraced pro-Palestinian politician who claimed that "Holocaust guilt" was used to stop criticism of Israel after she was heckled at an event he chaired.
The Labour leader angrily shouted down a heckler in the audience who reacted after Baroness Jenny Tonge claimed that "the Israel lobby" use accusations of anti-Semitism to shut down any criticism of Israel in Parliament.
Corbyn chaired the House of Commons Palestine Return Centre (PRC) event in January 2012 which was put on “to commemorate the memory of Palestinian victims over the past six decades especially the last war in Gaza.”
During her speech, Tonge - who was suspended from the Lib Dems in 2016 for alleged anti-semitic remarks - also paid tribute to the leader of Hamas.
Holding up an Independent newspaper front page interview with Ismail Haniyeh, she gushed: "Now if that doesn't cheer you up, I don't know what will?
"That has to put fire in your belly to go out there and challenge the Israel lobby."
Hamas' charter calls for the death of all Jews across the world - not only Israel.
Tonge quit the Liberal Democrats in 2016 after she was suspended for hosting a PRC event in which an audience member claimed that Jews were behind the Holocaust and where Israel was compared to Islamic State.
During her speech at the event Corbyn attended, she claimed that no action was taken by the British Government following her and Jeremy tabling questions on Israel's conduct because of the "Israel Lobby".
She said: "I think that it is not just Holocaust guilt. It is not just America's fault.
"It is because of the strength of the Israeli lobby in this country and all over Europe.
"That is when you get in big trouble because that is when they start accusing you of anti-Semitism.
"You criticise Israel and they try to shut you up by saying you are anti-Semitic."
Then, to loud applause, she added: "I know some of you have had experience of this already, but keep going!"
Unearthed speech by Jeremy Corbyn would have breached Labour party's own code on anti-Semitism
Corbyn did not challenge Tonge at any point but angrily reacted when a heckler in the audience accused the disgraced politician of "talking rubbish" and called on her to give an example of debate being shut down.
The Labour leader furiously yelled at the heckler: "Do not speak when Jenny is speaking. There will be a time for questions after she has concluded. Anyone interrupting Jenny will not be asked for questions."
As the heckler settled down, she asked why "they always use the excuse of accusing us of anti-Semitism".
She went on: "Why do you not do something that is being done by the Israeli government in your name which is doing far more damage than anyone who criticises the Lobby.
"What the Israeli government is doing is damaging Jews all over Europe who are being associated with it."
Gideon Falter, Chairman of Campaign Against Antisemitism said: “At the time of that video, Baroness Tonge was already a parliamentary pariah due to her call for an inquiry into allegations that Israelis were harvesting human body organs in Haiti.
"Jeremy Corbyn had no qualms about being at an event with her, as he has done so many times, and telling Jews to be quiet when they tried to remonstrate with her.
"The evidence over many years shows that Jeremy Corbyn is an anti-semite, and under his leadership the Labour Party has become institutionally antisemitic and an existential threat to British Jewry."
Corbyn, a backbencher at the time of the 2010 meeting, also allegedly attempted to get Holocaust survivor Rubin Katz, 80, thrown out for raising objections.
Mr Katz said: "The room was brimming with raging hatred directed at Israel and at Jews not sharing the organisers’ views.

John McDonnell admits anti-Semitism row has 'shaken Labour to its core'
"No opposing voice was tolerated. To hold such a hate-fest on that solemn day was a travesty and to compare Jews to Nazis was odious and deeply hurtful, particularly to those who suffered and lost family."
In 2012 Corbyn also appeared on Iranian TV and appeared to express his support for more than 1,000 convicted Hamas terrorists released by Israel as part of a prisoner swap.
He described them as “brothers” and questioned whether there was a “serious case” against them.
Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell has admitted that Labour's anti-Semitism row needs to be resolved.
Corbyn's office declined to comment.
