Brits spend a DAY a week online and check their smartphones every 12 minutes
A new study from watchdog Ofcom has revealed that we spend up to three hours and 26 minutes a day online
BRITS are so hooked on the web and apps they spend a day a week online.
They check their smartphones an average of every 12 minutes while awake, a report says.
It means they are online for an average of three hours and 26 minutes a day, longer than they typically spend watching broadcast TV.
But regulator Ofcom’s report also highlighted unease at how our obsession was damaging the way people interacted with each other.
Ian Macrae, Ofcom director of market intelligence, said: ”Many admitted that the way they behave in public on their smartphones is unacceptable in principle.”
The annual Communications Market Report showed how habits have changed in the past decade. Half of adults now say their life would be boring without the web.
Two-thirds say access to the internet is essential while most consider making calls on a phone less important than being able to get online.
Two in five check their phones within five minutes of waking.
But more than half say phones and other devices interrupt face-to-face conversations with friends and family.
