Majorca beach horror as sea scooter severs 20-year-old holidaymaker’s arm leaving divers hunting for the missing limb
Doctors had hoped to be able to reattach the lost limb but after it was left underwater overnight this was impossible
DIVERS were sent on a grim mission to find the severed arm of a young German tourist who lost it in a boating accident.
Doctors were hopeful that if the missing limb was found in time off the coast of Majorca.
The extremity was found on the sea bed off the popular beach of El Trenc but surgeons have ruled out the chance of reconnecting it after it was left submerged over night.
The 20-year-old man lost his arm whilst he was diving in the ocean and a boat went over the top of him.
The propeller is believed to have made contact with his body and his arm slicing it clean off.
Divers with the Special Group of Underwater Activities (GEAS) of the Civil Guard spent an entire evening searching for the limb before calling off the mission.
They restarted it the following day finally finding the arm was found among some sea plants.
It is believed the vessel which impacted with the German tourist was a sea scooter and it was one of a pair being used in that area of the water.
Local reports say the riders had not put out the correct buoys to signal where they were but this has yet to be verified.
The two pilots thought they had hit someone in the water and saw two men, one of them aged 26, also German, who suffered a severely cut leg and was pulled to safety. He too is German.
The other 20-year-old was still in the water with his arm hacked off above the elbow.
Both were rescued and rushed to hospital.
The accident happened about 330 yards from the shore off one of the busiest beaches in Majorca.
Both men are in a critical condition and it is understood the 26-year-old has had his leg amputated or is in imminent danger of losing it.
