UK weather forecast for Saturday July 28th reveals a cooler and windy day for many with showers and the occasional thunderstorm in the north

An amber severe weather warning for Northern Ireland was issued, with the Met saying torrential downpours were affecting some areas on Saturday afternoon.

It also said thunderstorms in north-east Scotland could cause disruption on Saturday, while power cuts, sea swells and damage to campsites were possible in south Wales and south-west England in the early hours of Sunday.

Will Lang, chief meteorologist at the Met Office, said: "While Saturday will be a pleasant, but breezy day in many places, we are in for a change on Sunday with a wet and windy day in stark contrast to what has been typical recently.

"We have already issued a Met Office weather warning for the impacts of wind and rain in south-west England and south Wales.

"Southerly winds will gust at around 35-40 mph and up to 50mph for exposed coasts and hills.

"Rain will be most persistent over hills and parts of the Brecon Beacons and Dartmoor could see as much as 60-80mm of rain."

After a grey and gloomy Sunday, the Met Office said the heat will build again next week with temperatures expected to creep into the 30s.
