DRUG RAPE DOC

Twisted doctor ‘used paralysing truth drug to rape THOUSANDS of children in straitjackets’ and NO ONE will face justice

A TWISTED doctor could have abused thousands of children after putting them in straitjackets and using a paralysing truth serum to render them helpless.

Dr Kenneth Milner, based at Aston Hall Hospital, Derbyshire, between the 1950s and 70s, died before allegations of horrific assault and rape could be investigated.

Yesterday it emerged 65 people are now being treated by cops as victims, amid claims the doctor would take child patients to a secluded room, drug them and sexually abuse them.

It is feared no one could be held accountable as after Milner's death in 1976, other staff members have been removed from the inquiry, have also died or are unable to be identified.

One victim, Barbara O'Hare, said she was abused by the doctor multiple times after being given sodium amytal.

She said she would be tied up, injected with the drug purported to correct behavioural issues and put on a mattress in a padded room.

Yesterday, talking about a report published by Derbyshire police, she said: “This is the validation that we were telling the truth. Aston Hall took my life. I have not had a life because of this.

“Dr Milner played with our bodies and our minds. I think, when you take into account of how long he was there for, he abused thousands of people.

"And I would urge people out there who suffered at Aston Hall to come forward. Do not feel ashamed.

"Do not be frightened. Come forward and get help.”

Lawyers for 47 patients sent to the hospital in the 1960s and 1970s said the "horrific treatment" had "undoubtedly caused permanent, damaging effects".

It was said Milner, who worked at Broadmoor before going to Aston Hall between 1947 and 1975, was trying to "normalise" naughty children.

One person who spoke to cops during the investigation said Jimmy Saville was "invited" to Aston Hall by Milner - but this has not been confirmed.

As well as the sexual abuse, there were claims of a patients being hit while trying to resist treatment at the hospital, one having her head repeatedly forced under water, and one having her hair repeatedly pulled to force her to take medication.

Another said she woke with her hands bound after being drugged and complained to a nurse of soreness between her legs.

The timeline of the investigation into the abuse allegations at Aston Hall

  • A victim initially came forward to Suffolk Police in June 2011.
  • Her claims were passed to Derbyshire where officers investigated but found no allegations of sexual abuse.
  • In July 2014, another person made an allegation to Derbyshire police that they were raped at the hospital, but the claim was not pursued because the suspect was dead.
  • Two months later, police in Nottinghamshire spoke to another individual who alleged they were abused at the hospital.
  • But this was recorded purely for intelligence purposes, again because the suspect was dead.
  • In July 2015, another woman complained of abusive treatment.
  • The following year, in February 2016, the investigation was formally passed to Derbyshire's Public Protection Major Investigation Team.

The nurse slapped her around the head and told her she must have a urine infection.

Detective Chief Superintendent Kem Mehmet, from Derbyshire police, said: "I am satisfied the force gave an appropriate and proportionate response to the first allegation in 2011.

"One of the victims sent a card to the police saying they no longer feel like victims, they feel like warriors."

Another victim, David Martin, stayed at Aston Hall and said he was abused by Milner on several occasions when he was aged 12 and 13.

He said the abuse ruined his life and made him struggle forming relationships in his life.

He said: “I was sceptical about these two reports today and how much would be in them and what it would say. But I’m really pleased with them. This is what we have said has been happening. This is justice for us.

“There’s a long way to go but this is confirmation that we were abused and it was horrific.

“It ruined my life. For years after I was not believed and it was like I was in a different world to other people.

“These reports say we have told the truth. We feel believed. The whole saga has been very shocking - part of me thought this was just me it happened to.

“I felt suicidal at times. I feel so sorry for all the victims, especially the females. I’m so shocked at what the report says about the sexual abuse.

"What he did was very disturbing and as the report says, it should never have happened. But we now feel believed.”

Despite feeling vindicated by the outcome of the report today - Mr Martin said he still feels upset he was ever sent to Aston Hall.

Derbyshire police confirmed in yesterday's report: "There would have been sufficient evidence to justify interviewing Dr Milner under caution in relation to a number of potential offences, namely rape, indecent assault, child cruelty and assault."
