Theresa May takes Cabinet meeting to Gateshead and will meet workers in bid to sell her soft Brexit plans in the North
The PM will meet workers as she promises to deliver a Brexit deal that “works for every corner of the UK”
THERESA May will today hold her weekly Cabinet meeting in Gateshead in a bid to sell her soft Brexit plans to northern England.
The PM will then talk to workers at local businesses - promising to deliver a Brexit deal that “works for every corner of the UK”.
To mark her first Cabinet meeting in the North East she will confirm a £780 million investment in the East Coast Main Line to boost the number of seats and shorten journeys between Doncaster, Leeds and Newcastle.
Last night the PM said: “Making Britain a country that works for everyone, in urban and rural regions, is a priority for my Government - and a thriving economy across the Northern Powerhouse is central to that.
“We have set out major policies and investments as part of our Modern Industrial Strategy to unlock the potential in the North - and more than any government in history, we are making sure that we are delivering the outcomes that really matter to people who live and work here.”
Mrs May has also ordered her Cabinet ministers to use the summer break to go on a European charm offensive to sell her Chequers Brexit plans.
