SHAMEFUL, weak and treasonous were just some of the words used to sum up Donald Trump's meeting with Vladimir Putin yesterday - and that's just from his own lawmakers.
In an unprecedented move, the American president openly questioned his own intelligence agencies to side with Russia over claims his spies "disrupted" the US election.
The eyes of the world were fixed on the summit in Helsinki, Finland, to see whether Trump would confront Putin on election meddling and the Novichok poisoning saga.
And today, the front pages of the world almost unanimously declared it a resounding victory for Putin, 65, who openly admitted he wanted the former reality TV star to win the election.
In the UK, the Guardian quoted former CIA Director John Brennan who branded him "treasonous".
American papers were more scathing: The New York Daily News led with a cartoon of Trump holding hands with a shirtless Putin as he shot an Uncle Sam character in the head.
The Philadelphia Daily News went with a picture of the US leader accepting a football from Putin with the line: "See, Vlad's puppet does whatever he wants."
Finnish newspaper Kauppalehti used the same photo with the headline: "Trump 0 - Putin 1."
As did London's Metro, while asking the question: "Did Trump drop the ball?"
Referring to his trip to the UK, Spain's El Mundo went with: "Trump surrenders to Putin after humiliating Europe."
And France's Le Monde declared that "Putin dominated the Helsinki match against Trump".
Peru's El Comercia featured an image of the leaders shaking hands with the headline: "Trump agrees with Putin."
As always, countless memes flooded the internet portraying Trump as everything from Putin's pet to his submissive lover.
He was even trolled by Dictionary.com, which tweeted the definition of "traitor" shortly after the extraordinary meeting.
It described it as "a person who commits treason by betraying his or her country".
more importantly lawmakers from both major US parties and ex-intelligence officials were gobsmacked by Trump's suggestion he believes Putin over election interference.
It was a remarkable and unprecedented break with US intelligence officials and the Justice Department.
Just as alarming for some, Trump also put the two countries on the same footing when casting blame for their strained relations.
And while Trump went home to widespread criticism after their meeting, Putin came home to universal praise in Moscow.
Despite no major breakthroughs Putin won over his domestic audience, said Alexander Gabuev of the Carnegie Moscow Center.

Most notably, he firmly pushed back at accusations of Russian election meddling with his own accusations against the US.
Russian commentators meanwhile are sympathising with Trump, portraying him as a victim of irrational domestic critics and pinning hopes on him for improving relations.
Vladimir Olenchenko of Russia's Institute of Global Economics and International Relations expressed hope that "Trump will have enough political will... to overcome the resistance and continue dialogue with Russia".
