First picture of woman, 86, who was knifed to death on Birmingham street

THIS is the first picture of the 86-year-old woman who was knifed to death in Birmingham on Thursday.

Pensioner Riasat Bi was found with stab wounds at her Aubrey Road home in Small Heath, while an 18-year-old man was rushed to hospital after being knifed multiple times yesterday morning.

West Midlands Police said a 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder in the early hours of this morning in Stoke-on-Trent remains in hospital.

Detectives are expecting to interview him once he is discharged, and his injuries are not life-threatening or changing.

The force said an 18-year-old man, who was found with multiple stab wounds at the murder scene remains in a critical but stable condition.

Detective Inspector Harry Harrison said: "Our investigation is moving swiftly and, although we have made an arrest, we are still keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened yesterday."

He continued: "This is a horrendous crime, made all the more shocking due to the age of the victim, and we are determined to bring her killer to justice.

"We have specialist officers with her family as they try to come to terms with the devastating events of yesterday."

A number of people were seen gathered at the scene yesterday, consoling each other after the tragedy.

Women were seen hugging, wiping away their tears as they left the scene.

The community was left reeling by the stabbings - with schools warning pupils should not walk home alone following the attack.

Staff from Ark Chamberlain Primary Academy, off Oldknow Road, sent a text to parents, warning: "URGENT- Due to a serious incident in the local area pupils will not be allowed to walk home alone today.

"Please collect your child from school at 3.15pm.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman paramedics had found the 86-year-old with "very serious stab wounds".

They said: "Ambulance staff immediately started treating her, but sadly it was not possible to save her and she was confirmed dead at the scene.

 

 

"A second patient, an 18 year old man, had also suffered very serious stab wounds.

"He was treated at the scene before being taken by land ambulance to a major trauma centre with an air ambulance doctor travelling with the crew."
