What is on Theresa May's arm?

Theresa May was wearing a diabetes monitoring patch.

The monitoring system introduced back in 2016 was a breakthrough for people with the autoimmune disease.

It means they will no longer have to frequently conduct finger prick tests to know what their sugar levels are.

When placed on the back of the upper arm, a tiny filament goes through the upper level of the skin.

What are the patches for?

The small white circular patch monitors blood sugar levels.

Information is transferred from the white patch to a digital reader, which will let the wearer know the current state of glucose in the system.

This then indicates the best time to inject with insulin.

Is Theresa May a diabetic?

May was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2013, following a blood test after her recent weight loss.

The condition means her body cannot produce insulin, so she must now inject herself with the hormone at least twice a day for the rest of her life.

Although it was a "real shock", May, then Home Secretary, told the it was a case of "head down and getting on with it".
