Richard Swift passed away on July 3, 2018, in Tacoma, Washington, according to a representative who spoke to .

Last month, it emerged that Swift was hospitalised with an unspecified "life-threatening" condition.

It is unclear how he died but many musicians have paid tribute to the accomplished bassist and drummer.

Dan Auerbach, his Black Keys bandmate, wrote on Instagram: "Today the world lost one of the most talented musicians I know."

When was Richard Swift in The Shins and The Black Keys?

Swift was a former member of indie rock band The Shins and a touring bassist for alternative rock group The Black Keys.

He was a part of The Shins - formed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1996 - between the years of 2011 and 2016.

Swift performed keyboards, piano, organ, synthesizers, percussion, drone box and backing vocals.

How old was Richard Swift when he died?

Richard, born in California in 1977, was 41-years-old when he died.

A post on Swift's Facebook page read: "And all the angels sing 'Que Sera Sera'. Richard Ochoa Swift March 16, 1977 - July 3, 2018."

On June 19, friends and family posted a GoFundMe page to help pay bills for his treatment after he was "hospitalised due to a serious medical condition.".
